The first-ever Sooner Choice Awards, OU’s student-athlete awards show, was held Wednesday, April 27, at Southwind Hills, a premier event venue just south of Norman.

First Sooner Choice Awards 'Magical'

The awards show, created by student-athletes for student-athletes, was conceived in the desire to unite all generations of Sooners by connecting the athletes of today with those who laid the foundations of our storied tradition. Using the theme of Sooners Magic, its mission is three-fold: Honor the past. Empower the present. Inspire the future.

Male Athlete of the year NOMINEES

Cody Brewer (wrestling), Baker Mayfield (football), Buddy Hield (men’s basketball) and Axel Alvarez (men’s tennis).

An All-American in every event for OU women’s gymnastics, Chayse Capps earned Female Athlete of the Year honors.

Male Breakthrough athlete of the year nominees

Jacob Burcham (track & field), Baker Mayfield (football) and Yul Moldauer (men’s gymnastics).

From walk-on to Heisman contender, Baker Mayfield was no doubt the Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.

Charity Jones (women’s gymnastics), Paige Parker (softball) and Julia Reedy (track & field).
